Mutts on the Moor

Drive through South Brent and you'll spot the signs pointing toward Mutts on the Moor - a quirky roadside attraction that's part working farm, part dog-themed oddity. It's exactly the sort of place you'd expect to find on a Devon backroad: honest, a bit eccentric, and utterly unpretentious.

What you're actually looking at is a working moorland farm where dogs have become the unlikely stars. There are alpacas, sheep, and the titular mutts roaming about - it's very much a hands-on affair. Kids absolutely lose their minds here, especially if they're the type who'd rather chase animals around a field than sit in a museum for two hours. The moorland setting is genuinely lovely, and you can wander about at your own pace without feeling rushed.

The whole thing has the feel of something a farmer set up one afternoon and somehow kept going. There's no pretence to it - bring wellies if it's wet, expect mud, don't arrive in white trainers. Allow a couple of hours if you've got young kids; adults without children might find an hour sufficient.

If you're based at Ashbourne Woods nearby, this works well as a morning distraction before heading somewhere more substantial. It's free admission, which is genuinely shocking given how much visitors get out of it. Worth the detour from South Brent if you've got restless children - proper value for money.
