Nantwich Lake

The lake itself is rather modest - a decent stretch of water right on Nantwich's doorstep that works best as a gentle afternoon walk rather than a destination in its own right. You get a proper loop around it, plenty of benches if you fancy sitting still for twenty minutes, and the whole thing takes maybe forty minutes at a leisurely pace. Ducks, the occasional fisherman, the usual suspects.

It's the sort of place that slots nicely into a park holiday in the area. If you're camped at The Willows Touring Park just down the road, you could easily pop over before breakfast or as an evening stroll. Families with younger kids won't stay long - there's no playground, no facilities to speak of - but it's fine for a bit of fresh air and a stretch of the legs. The water's reasonably clean and the surroundings are green enough, though it's hardly a dramatic landscape.

Nantwich town itself is worth an hour or two, with decent shops and a proper high street if you need to stock up. The lake works as a buffer between you and the hubbub, which is its main charm. Head here if you're staying at one of the nearby touring parks and want something low-key. Otherwise, don't make it your reason for being in Cheshire. It's pleasant enough, just don't expect anything grand.
