The woodland paths are proper atmospheric, especially in autumn when the leaves turn. There's a herd of red and fallow deer that roam freely, which children absolutely love spotting from a distance. The formal gardens near the house are well maintained, and the lake is genuinely peaceful if you catch it on a quiet morning.

For families with youngsters, the open parkland means kids can run about without causing chaos, though the terrain gets quite hilly in places - not ideal if you've got toddlers who tire easily. Walkers will find the trails absorbing; allow at least three hours to do anything justice, more if you want to explore the upper reaches of the estate.
