North Leigh Methodist Church

A modest Victorian Methodist chapel sitting quietly on the edge of North Leigh, just a few miles south of Witney. There's nothing flashy about it - red brick, simple lines, the sort of building that tells you more about 19th-century working life than any heritage plaque ever could.

Inside, it's all original features: wooden pews worn smooth by generations, a small organ, and that particular smell of old hymn books and beeswax. Best visited on a clear day when you can appreciate the surrounding landscape. It's free, always accessible from outside, though you might need to ask in the village if you want to get properly inside. Don't expect comfort or facilities - bring a torch if you go in winter. Suits walkers and anyone with a genuine interest in Methodist heritage far more than casual tourists expecting ornate interiors.
