Northernmost point of Leicestershire

The Leicestershire border doesn't announce itself with fanfare. There's a modest marker near the hamlet of Weston by Welland, just a stone's throw from Newark, and that's it - the northernmost point of the county. It's the sort of spot that only gets a visit from boundary enthusiasts and the occasional curious traveller with a map addiction.

There's not much to do here, to be honest. You walk up, find the marker, take a photo proving you've been somewhere most people forget exists, then move on. But that's rather the appeal. No crowds, no gift shop, no staged Instagram moment - just a quiet corner of East Midlands countryside where Leicestershire meets Nottinghamshire.

For families staying at Witham Grange Glamping or Secret Garden Glamping nearby, it's a decent way to tick off a quirky waypoint during a broader park holiday. Throw it into a morning walk and combine it with proper attractions in the Newark area. On its own, you're looking at thirty minutes maximum, and that's if you linger.

Weston by Welland itself is tiny, so pack a packed lunch or drive the short distance to Newark for decent cafes and pubs. The landscape is unremarkable - flat Midlands farmland - so don't expect sweeping views. This works best as a novelty rather than a destination. Summer's fine, though there's nothing weather-dependent about it. Wagtail Country Park and Janson Fishery nearby offer more substantial entertainment if you've got half a day to fill.
