Northumberland Museum and Archives

The museum sits right here among the industrial ruins, so you're not just reading about it behind glass; you're surrounded by it.

Inside, the archives and exhibits focus heavily on the region's mining heritage and local history. It's thorough rather than flashy, which means it'll appeal most to adults with a genuine interest in industrial Britain and family historians digging into roots. Kids under ten might find it a bit heavy on text, but there's enough physical stuff to explore - the machinery, the buildings themselves - to keep them engaged for a bit.
