Walking into Obelisk Wood near Peterstone feels like stepping back in time. The forest is dominated by a striking obelisk monument - the kind of Victorian folly that makes you wonder what story prompted someone to plant it here, in the middle of Norfolk woodland. The trees have grown tall around it, creating this oddly atmospheric pocket of the landscape that's far more interesting than you'd expect from a local forest.

It's a short walk to reach the obelisk itself, making it ideal for families who want something less demanding than a full day ramble. You get proper woodland atmosphere without needing serious hiking boots. The monument is the draw here - it photographs well and gives you something concrete to aim for, rather than just wandering aimlessly between the trees. That said, don't expect crowds or facilities.
