About Old Wood
The walk works best for families with confident walkers and serious ramblers - there's enough woodland to lose an hour without feeling trapped on a manicured trail. Kids who like climbing and exploring will find plenty of fallen branches and nooks, though pushchair access is going to be rough depending on which route you take. The forest floor is uneven, sometimes boggy after rain.
There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so bring water and pack your own snacks. The nearby Tadcaster itself offers cafes if you want to round out the visit. Allow two hours for a decent loop without rushing.
If you're based at Wighill Park Glamping or Hewn Yorkshire - both excellent spots, by the way - Old Wood makes an easy morning break before heading elsewhere. It won't revolutionise your holiday, but it's genuine woodland rather than prettified country park, which counts for something. Worth the detour if you're already in the area.
