The woodland floor at Oxhill is properly soft underfoot - a thick carpet of leaf litter that muffles your footsteps and makes the whole place feel quieter than it probably is. This is a working forest in Gloucestershire, real trees rather than a manicured country estate, with trails that wind through beech and oak without much faffing about with visitor centres or waymark confusion.

It's the kind of walk that suits families who don't need a destination, walkers after a solid hour or two without too much elevation gain, and anyone genuinely interested in woodland rather than just ticking off another stop.
