Paddock Plantation

The woodland paths at Paddock Plantation wind through a proper working forest just outside Hull, where you're far enough from the city to forget it exists but close enough that you haven't spent half the day driving. It's straightforward stuff - mixed woodland with decent tracks running through it, the kind of place where you can actually walk without consulting an Ordnance Survey map every five minutes.

Walkers will get the most out of it. The paths are well-maintained and the forest is genuinely peaceful, especially on weekday mornings when the place is yours alone. Children tend to find it engaging for an hour or so, though there's no playground or visitor centre to extend a visit, so manage expectations accordingly. It's not dramatic or Instagram-worthy, just solid woodland walking.

Coming from any of the holiday parks nearby - Little Otchan Glamping is barely four miles away, and both Parkdean Resorts Withernsea Sands and Sand le Mere are within six miles - it makes a decent morning excursion. Pair it with a trip into Withernsea itself for coastal air or cycle it as part of a longer route if you're based at one of the caravan parks.

There's no entrance fee that we can find, and no set hours posted, so it operates on the trust system. Allow two hours for a proper wander. Spring and autumn are best when the woodland actually looks like something rather than a wall of summer green.
