Paws In The Fields

A sprawling outdoor sculpture park near Salisbury where massive animal figures have taken over a working farm. Paws In The Fields isn't quite a tourist trap and isn't quite art - it's something in between that works surprisingly well.

You'll find dozens of enormous sculptures scattered across fields and farmland. The animals are bold, sometimes playful, occasionally just plain strange. Walk around and you'll spot oversized dogs, cats, rabbits and creatures that defy easy classification. Some are genuinely clever; others feel a bit more like somebody's very committed fever dream. The setting matters - these aren't sitting in a gallery where everything gets pretentious. They're just... out there in the Wiltshire countryside, which somehow makes them less precious and more fun.

Families with younger children will get the most mileage from this. The sculptures are large enough to photograph next to, weird enough to spark conversation, and spread out enough that kids won't get bored after half an hour. Adult art enthusiasts might find it a bit too populist, but even sceptics tend to crack a smile at some point.

It works well as a leg-stretcher during a Wiltshire holiday, particularly if you're staying at Green Hill Farm Holiday Village just four miles away. Budget a couple of hours max - longer if you've got small ones who want to scramble around. The walk itself is straightforward and flat enough for most people.
