The moment you walk into Peckover House, you're standing in a merchant's treasure trove. This Georgian townhouse in Wisbech is exactly what happens when a Victorian banking family decides to collect things obsessively - furniture, paintings, clocks, curiosities - and then just leaves it all exactly as it was. The rooms feel lived-in rather than sterile, which is refreshing after visiting a dozen "velvet rope" museums.

You get the ground floor, with its proper original kitchen, and then upstairs into the family's private quarters where the real personality emerges. The back garden is surprisingly expansive for a town house - a walled Victorian space with outbuildings that reveal how the household actually functioned. It's not a place to rush. Allow at least two hours if you're the type to read every label; forty minutes if you just want the visual sweep.

Families with older children will find it engaging enough, though there's not much here for under-tens beyond "don't touch the antiques" tedium. History buffs and anyone interested in 19th-century domestic life will absolutely get their money's worth.

Stay at one of the nearby glamping spots - Glamping with Llamas is barely two miles away, or Westerby Farm and Parklands Holidays offer proper facilities if you prefer your camping with fewer alpacas involved. Wisbech itself is worth a wander beforehand for lunch. Check opening hours before you visit, as it's not always straightforward with National Trust properties.
