Peter Robertson Bridge

The Peter Robertson Bridge spans the River Ugie just outside Peterhead, a modest but solid Victorian structure that quietly speaks to Aberdeen's engineering heritage. It's not going to stop you in your tracks like a castle might, but it's a decent spot to pause during a walk along the riverbanks - the kind of place locals know and visitors stumble upon by accident.

The bridge itself is functional rather than ornate, built in the 1800s and named after a local worthy. From the centre you get decent views up and down the river, with the green banks of Aberdeenshire stretching out on either side. It's genuinely peaceful on a weekday. Worth five minutes of your time if you're already in Peterhead; not worth driving out specifically unless you're doing the full riverside walk.

Historically-minded types will find it mildly interesting as a slice of Victorian civil engineering - the kind of workaday structure that kept commerce moving. Walkers get more out of it, really. The surrounding riverside paths are the real draw, and the bridge acts as a natural focal point on a longer ramble.

It's free to cross, obviously. Allow perhaps ten minutes if you're stopping for photos and a look around. Combine it with a stay at Peterhead Marina Bay Holiday Park just up the road - three miles away - and you've got easy access to the coast and these quieter inland walks. Best visited on a decent day when you can actually see the river properly.
