Porth Trwyn

The beach itself is a mix of shingle and rocky outcrops, brilliant for exploring rock pools but challenging for small children. On clear days you can spot Ireland across the water, though more often you'll be watching the weather roll in from the Atlantic.

Expect to have the place largely to yourself - tourist coaches don't venture this far from the main Holyhead attractions. That isolation is exactly what makes it special, though the lack of facilities means bringing your own refreshments is essential. Give yourself at least two hours to properly explore and soak up the atmosphere.
