Portishead Sea View

The view across the Bristol Channel from Portishead's seafront is properly something special, especially on a clear day when you can see right across to Wales. It's a straightforward coastal walk rather than a formal attraction - you rock up to the promenade, stand at the rail, and take it in. The sort of place where you understand why people built a town here in the first place.

It works best for a short detour if you're heading through the area, say 20 minutes wandering about. Families with restless kids won't find much to occupy them beyond the view itself, but if you've got walkers in the group or anyone who genuinely enjoys a decent seascape, it's worth the effort. The waterfront has that lived-in feel of a proper working port rather than a seaside theme park, which is either exactly what you want or not.

You won't need to book anything or pay - it's open whenever you fancy turning up. Best visited on a non-mizzly day, obviously. The Somerset Glamping site sits just 5.7 miles inland, so if you're based there for a park holiday, Portishead makes an easy morning run before heading back for lunch. Bristol itself is only about 10 miles south if you're after more substantial attractions, but the sea view alone justifies the coastal detour. Don't expect theme parks or ice cream shops - this is about the Channel, the air, and occasionally spotting a decent sunset.
