Quarry Banks Nature Reserve sits just outside Carlisle, a proper working landscape where you can see exactly what happens when industry and wildlife learn to coexist. What was once a slate quarry has been left to its own devices, and nature has done something genuinely interesting here - steep rocky banks, scrubby woodland, and pools of water that attract all sorts of birds and insects.
