Reeks Wood

Walk far enough into Reeks Wood and you'll forget Godalming exists. The woodland canopy here is thick enough to make November feel like dusk, and the paths wind through what feels like proper old-growth Surrey forest - the kind where you half expect to bump into a gamekeeper from the 1950s. Expect tall trees, ferns, and stretches where the only sound is your boots on damp leaf litter. It's less manicured than some of the county's woodland, which is exactly why people come. The walks aren't particularly demanding, but they're genuine - no boardwalks or visitor infrastructure, just forest. You'll need a solid hour if you want to explore properly, longer if you dawdle and look for fungi in season. Come on a weekday morning and you'll have the place almost to yourself. Families with younger kids might find it bit of a slog without a specific destination, though older children who like hunting for things will get on fine. Walkers absolutely love it - this is the sort of place that reminds you why people moved to Surrey in the first place. If you're staying at Little Cowdray Farm Glamping nearby, it's an easy addition to a morning out, close enough that you won't waste half your day driving but far enough from the carpark that you feel like you've properly got away.
