Retford Lawn Tennis Club

Unless you're a serious tennis player or member, Retford Lawn Tennis Club isn't really a visitor attraction in the traditional sense. It's a private members' club in central Retford, and unless you've got connections or happen to be staying with someone who plays, you won't get in to watch or participate. That said, if you're holidaying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Hallcroft Fishery is just a mile away, or Little Oak slightly further - and you're after local sports facilities or fancy joining in, it's worth contacting them directly to check if they offer any pay-and-play sessions or guest memberships.

Retford itself is a decent enough market town if you're passing through, with reasonable shops and pubs, but for proper activities during a park holiday, you'd be better off heading towards Clumber Park six miles away. That's a full-day destination with woodland walks, a lake, and real things to do as a family. The National Trust site there has proper infrastructure for visitors.

If tennis is genuinely your thing and you're serious about getting a few games in during your break, phone ahead to the club and ask the score. Otherwise, pack your rackets and head to Clumber instead - better use of your time. The club itself keeps a low profile, which says something about its appeal to casual visitors.
