Rhos Fullbrook

A rocky outcrop near Tregaron that's more about the walk than the destination itself. Rhos Fullbrook sits in proper sheep country, where the Cambrian Mountains start to show their teeth - nothing dramatic, just honest moorland that makes you work for the views.

You don't arrive at some marked viewpoint with a car park and a gift shop. Instead you're parking near Tregaron and heading out on foot across open ground, which is exactly why it's worth doing. The landscape around here is what Wales does best: rolling hills, ancient-feeling valleys, the occasional stone wall that looks like it's been there since someone first decided to farm sheep. On a clear day you can see properly far. On a grey day - and there will be grey days - it's moody and atmospheric in a way that feels earned.

This is walker territory, genuinely. Not a casual stroll with toddlers, though older kids who don't mind muddy paths will be fine. Plan two to three hours including the walk out and back. Spring through autumn beats winter here - the paths get boggy when it's wet, which is often.

Stay at Cambrian Mountains Glamping and Camping just down the road, a proper five-star spot that makes this the sort of place worth building a few days around. Combine it with walks in the surrounding hills and a crawl around Tregaron's pubs, and you've got yourself a decent Welsh weekend. Don't come expecting monuments or facilities. Come for the silence and the space.
