Robson Wood

Walking into Robson Wood feels like stepping into someone's private woodland - dense, quiet, properly atmospheric. This small forest sits just outside Goole and gives you the chance to wander through proper Yorkshire woodland without fighting crowds. Paths wind through stands of mature trees, and there's enough cover that even on grey days it feels rather special.

It's a walker's spot more than anything else. Families with young kids might manage half an hour before restlessness sets in, but if you've got proper hikers in the group, the trails reward a good couple of hours. The woodland floor is soft underfoot, which is both lovely and occasionally boggy depending on recent weather. Birdwatchers tend to have a field day here - take binoculars and you'll spot all sorts.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared. It's free to enter, and there's no formal opening hours listed, making it a proper flexible option if you want an early morning walk before breakfast. The nearest town is Goole, which is flat and industrial - this wood is essentially your escape from it.

If you're based at Apple Blossom Caravan and Camping just 1.5 miles away, Robson Wood works perfectly as a daily outing. Between Rivers Camping is slightly further at six miles, but still entirely doable for a morning expedition. It's not dramatic or famous, but it's genuine woodland on your doorstep.
