Round Clump

Round Clump is a small woodland tucked away east of Cambridge - the sort of place locals know about but visitors often miss entirely. It's not vast, and you won't find any facilities or marked trails, but that's rather the point. Walk in and you get a proper escape from the Backs and the college crowds, even though you're barely outside the city limits.

The trees are dense enough to feel like proper forest, which is rare this close to Cambridge. It's the kind of spot where you can wander for an hour without seeing another soul, though in truth most people don't stay that long. If you're after a woodland ramble with a genuine sense of getting away, this delivers. The undergrowth is thick in places, so wear proper boots rather than trainers.

You'll get the most from Round Clump if you're a walker or someone who simply wants twenty minutes of quiet green space without driving far. It's not a destination in itself - don't expect a view or a summit moment - but paired with a Cambridge visit, it makes sense as a morning or afternoon break. The nearby HappenOak Treehouse, about six miles south, would complement a woodland day nicely if you're looking to base yourself somewhere with a bit more character than the city centre.
