Rushmoor Hill

You'll find Rushmoor Hill rising above the Hampshire countryside just outside Alresford - a proper modest summit that rewards the short walk with genuinely good views across the surrounding valleys. It's the kind of spot locals know and tourists often miss, which is exactly why it's worth your time.

The walk itself isn't demanding. Most people manage it in under an hour, and the terrain is straightforward enough for families with older kids, though younger ones might find it a bit of a slog depending on their mood. From the top you get decent sight lines across the Itchen Valley and the surrounding farmland - nothing dramatic like the South Downs on a clear day, but solid views all the same. On a misty morning it's atmospheric rather than spectacular.

Since there's no café at the summit and facilities are minimal, go for the walk for what it is - a decent stretch of legs, a bit of fresh air, and a chance to see this corner of Hampshire from a different angle. It works particularly well if you're staying at one of the local holiday parks. Wigwam Holidays and Hampshire Hills are both within a few miles, making this an easy morning or late-afternoon outing before settling in for the evening. Feather Down Manor Farm is slightly further but still accessible.

Bring a packed lunch if you want to linger. The views aren't the kind that'll stay with you forever, but the walk is solid and the area around Alresford itself - with its watercress beds and the Watercress Line railway - offers enough to fill a proper day out.
