Salterns car park sits on the edge of Tenby, serving as the launch point for anyone serious about exploring Pembrokeshire's coast on foot. It's not a destination in itself - there's no café, no visitor centre, no Instagram moment waiting in the tarmac - but what makes it genuinely useful is the access it gives you to some proper walking routes along the South Wales coastal path.

Walkers will get the most from this spot. The car park is positioned right where you can head east towards Tenby's beaches and town centre, or west along the clifftop towards Saundersfoot if you've got the legs for it. On a clear day the views across Carmarthen Bay are worth the drive alone, though the car park itself is functional rather than scenic - just a regular layby with some parking spaces.

It's free to use, and you can stay as long as you need. Allow anything from an hour for a quick clifftop stroll to a full day if you're planning to walk into Tenby proper or tackle the longer stretches westward. Summer weekends get rammed, so go early or come in shoulder season when it's properly peaceful.

If you're based at Saltern Holiday Park or Haven Kiln Park - both virtually on your doorstep - you don't need a car here at all, which is the real win. Otherwise, it's the obvious spot to park if you want to walk the coast without fighting Tenby's town car parks.
