Sauna Hus

There's a rather unexpected Finnish sauna sitting in the Norfolk countryside just east of Halesworth, and it's genuinely more interesting than you'd think. Sauna Hus is a proper working sauna operation - you rock up, strip off, and experience the real deal: wooden benches, serious heat, and that particular brand of Scandinavian wellness that's either your idea of bliss or complete madness.

The building itself is the draw as much as the experience. It's authentic Finnish design plonked into rural Suffolk, which feels slightly surreal in the best way. You're not getting spa treatments or fluffy robes here - this is about sitting in extreme heat and occasionally dunking yourself in cold water like your ancestors did. It sounds uncomfortable. Oddly, most people find it addictive.

It works brilliantly if you're camping nearby - Green Haven and Sunnyside are both within striking distance, and Dawn Chorus does glamping on a working farm if you want something less rough-and-ready. After a few days of tent life, the sauna feels like a proper treat without being pretentious about it.

Worth booking ahead - it's not a drop-in sort of place. You'll want to allow a couple of hours once you factor in getting changed and actually using it properly. Not for families with young kids, obviously, but couples or groups of adults after something different will have a genuinely good time. It's the sort of thing that sounds odd until you've tried it, then you're already booking your next slot.
