Scarboro' Clump

A patch of Scots pine and mixed woodland rising abruptly from the Norfolk flatlands, Scarboro' Clump is the sort of place locals know about and visitors stumble upon by accident. The trees are dense enough to feel like proper forest when you're inside them, which is saying something in Norfolk where the landscape tends toward wide horizons and open sky.

It's a short walk through the trees - nothing strenuous, nothing that demands hiking boots. You get the sense of being away from things without actually being lost, which matters if you're staying nearby at Pinewoods Holiday Park or Deepdale Camping. Both are close enough that you could pop over for an hour without making it the day's main event.

The clump works best for people who like a bit of quiet rather than those chasing Instagram moments. No views from the top, no facilities, just trees and a chance to breathe out. Kids won't stay entertained for hours, but if they need to burn off energy away from the holiday park playground, it does the job. Dog walkers come here regularly and that tells you something - dogs and their owners know a decent spot when they find one.

Go mid-week if you can, and early in the day. Summer's fine but autumn's better when the light changes between the pines. The nearest proper town is Peterstone if you need supplies or a cafe afterwards, though you won't find much fuss either way.
