Selattyn Hill

The walk up Selattyn Hill rewards you with views that stretch across the Shropshire borderlands towards Wales. It's a proper climb - nothing too brutal, but steep enough that you'll feel you've earned the summit. The hill itself is modest in height, yet isolated enough that the outlook feels genuinely expansive when you reach the top. On clear days, the Wrekin dominates the horizon to the south, and you can pick out the Welsh hills rolling away westward. The route is popular with walkers from Wrexham and beyond, and it's easy to see why.

Family groups will manage it fine if kids are used to a regular hike - allow around ninety minutes return depending on fitness. The paths are well-trodden but can get boggy in wet weather, so proper footwear matters. There's no café at the summit, no visitor centre, just open moorland and the wind. That's rather the point. Come early on a weekend if you want to avoid crowds, or pick a weekday and you might have the place largely to yourself.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Sweeney Farm Glamping and Fairhaven Camping are both excellent - this sits nicely as a half-day walk before lunch. It's also close enough to Foxtail Holiday Park to slot into a longer day exploring the area. The walk suits anyone who prefers genuine countryside over manicured attractions, and history types will appreciate its role in local navigation and folklore. Not Instagram-famous, which frankly is part of its charm.
