Sherrington Wood sits just outside Leominster and delivers exactly what you'd want from a Herefordshire forest - proper woodland walking without the crowds you'd find elsewhere. It's a working forest that actually feels wild, with dense tree cover, good tracks, and enough space to lose an hour or two without bumping into anyone.

The main appeal here is straightforward: walk among oak and mixed woodland, spot the occasional dog walker, listen to birdsong that isn't drowned out by car parks. There's no visitor centre or tea shop nonsense. You turn up, pick a direction, and go. The paths are well-maintained enough that families with primary-school-age kids can handle it, though it's not the sort of place for toddlers in buggies - the terrain's uneven and there's no obvious playground infrastructure.

Historically minded types might appreciate that this corner of Herefordshire has been forested for centuries, though Sherrington itself won't give you that dramatic castle or abbey moment. It's more subtle than that.

For park-based holidays, it works well as a half-morning detour. Townsend Touring and Camping Park sits just 2.3 miles away, making it ideal for campers wanting to stretch their legs without a massive drive. Arrow Bank Country Holiday Park is similarly close at 3.5 miles. Neither location will waste your time with long travel times.
