Shiral Wood

The woodland around Shiral is proper dense - towering conifers mixed with older broadleaves that block out enough light to keep things cool even on warm days. You're looking at serious forest here, the kind where you can lose an hour just wandering between trees without realizing it. The walks are straightforward enough, mostly flat or gently sloping tracks that don't demand hiking boots, though the ground can be boggy after rain so wellies aren't a bad shout.

It's ideal if you want to stretch your legs without a structured trail or visitor centre faffing about. No facilities to speak of, no admission charge as far as I can tell, and that's rather the appeal. Families with young kids might find it a bit samey after a while - it's woodland, lovely and all, but there's no viewpoint or waterfall to break things up. Walkers and nature types, though, will get far more from it. Time yourself for two hours maximum unless you're genuinely trying to cover distance.

Cardigan is your nearest proper town, a few miles off, which makes Shiral a natural half-day stop if you're touring the area. The Embrace the Space glamping setup just down the road offers yurts with hot tubs if you want to make a weekend of it - nothing wrong with soaking under the stars after a day tramping through the trees. It's not flashy, but it works.
