The forest itself is the draw. Oak and beech tower overhead, and on a decent day the views back towards Oxford are worth stopping for, though stopping mid-trail with someone behind you is never advisable. Walkers and runners use the place too, so eyes peeled around blind corners.

Give yourself at least two hours if you want to properly explore the better runs without rushing. The ground gets boggy after rain - we visited after a wet spell and regretted not bringing different shoes. Spring and autumn are the sweet spot: the trails dry out, visibility is sharp, and you won't be melting in full kit.

It's all accessible from Common Leys Farm just down the road, which makes this a cracking addition to a cycling break in the area. No facilities on-site, so pack water and snacks. The whole thing is free to ride - just turn up with a bike that won't embarrass you on the downhills.
