Skrinkle Haven Beach

Wild and windswept, this little-known stretch of sand sits between Tenby and Manorbier on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. The beach itself is properly secluded - you'll need to park up near Lydstep and follow the coastal footpath for about fifteen minutes to reach it.

Once you're there, the effort pays off handsomely. Rocky outcrops frame a decent expanse of golden sand that empties out completely at low tide, revealing pools perfect for crab hunting with the kids. The surf can be lively when the wind's up, though it's not really a surfing beach - more one for a proper paddle and some serious sandcastle construction.

Families staying at Haven Kiln Park or any of the nearby sites around Tenby will find this a cracking alternative to the busier beaches in town. Dogs are welcome year-round, which makes it popular with locals walking the coast path. Come prepared though - there's absolutely nothing here in terms of facilities, so pack everything you need including water and snacks.

The walk back up can be a bit of a slog with tired children in tow, but the views across Carmarthen Bay make it worthwhile. Best visited on a calmer day when you can actually appreciate the setting rather than getting sandblasted.
