Slievenabolea

Slievenabolea is a modest hill on the Newry side of the Mourne foothills, and it's the kind of walk that rewards you without demanding much in return. The summit sits at around 500 metres, offering views across the Newry valley towards the higher peaks beyond. On a clear day you'll see across to Slieve Martin and the broader Mourne range - proper sweeping countryside from up there.

The ascent itself is straightforward, nothing technical, which makes it accessible for families with older children and anyone after a proper walk without scrambling. Most people knock it out in an hour or so, depending on fitness and how often you stop to take it in. There's something quietly satisfying about reaching the top - it's not the dramatic peak you'd drive miles for, but it's worth the effort if you're in Newry and fancy stretching your legs.
