Smooth Rock

The walk down to Smooth Rock, just south of Bude, is better than the destination itself - and that's saying something. You're threading through coastal scrub and gorse, the Atlantic sprawling out to your right, until the path drops you onto a modest rocky outcrop with views that stretch for miles up and down the Cornish coast. The rock itself is unremarkable, honestly. It's smooth, sure, polished by millennia of sea spray and wind, but you're really here for the vantage point rather than the geology.

It works brilliantly for coastal walkers combining a few viewpoints in a morning - Bude's only a couple of miles north, so you can make this part of a longer ramble without it eating into your whole day. Families with capable walkers will enjoy it; the path's straightforward, though a bit muddy after rain. Twenty minutes there and back, plus time to sit and stare if the weather's cooperating.

Wooda Farm Holiday Park is close enough that you could slip out for this without needing the car - a proper bonus if you're based there with kids who need a break from holiday routines. The views are best on a clear day when you can see the coast curve away properly; fog rolls in fast here, so check the forecast before you head down.
