Spilsbury Hill

The walk up Spilsbury Hill takes about twenty minutes from the Kidderminster side, and it's a proper scramble in places - not difficult, but steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs. Once you reach the top, the views across Shropshire open out in all directions, which alone makes the effort worthwhile.

It's the kind of place that rewards walkers more than casual visitors. If you've got young children, they might struggle with the gradient, but teenagers who are up for a bit of a hike will find it genuinely rewarding. History buffs should know this area sits in Wyre Forest country, with plenty of old industrial heritage scattered about - Spilsbury itself is nothing grand, but the landscape around it tells you plenty about what this part of the world once was.

There's nothing to pay and no formal opening hours - you just turn up and walk. Allow a couple of hours if you're taking your time and want to sit about at the top. Early morning visits tend to be best if you want the place to yourself, especially on weekends when Kidderminster's families head out.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Lodge Coppice is barely two miles away, or Caspian Wood's glamping if you want something a bit different - Spilsbury works well as a half-day outing. It's not a standalone destination, but as part of a broader exploration of the Wyre Forest area, it's well worth the detour.
