Square Covert

Square Covert is a proper woodland walk tucked away near Swadlincote, the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think. It's a small forest patch - nothing vast or dramatic - but if you're staying at Bosworth Lakeside Lodges or The Dandelion Hideaway nearby, it's worth a morning ramble without the tourist crush.

The woodland itself is straightforward. You get decent tree cover, some gentle paths threading through, and enough room to let kids burn energy without worrying they'll wander off the edge of a cliff. It's the kind of place where the main appeal is simply being among the trees rather than reaching a specific viewpoint or historical marker. Bring a dog if you've got one.

Timing-wise, an hour here is plenty unless you're the sort who stops to identify every bird call. It works best as an add-on to a broader day out in the area rather than a destination in itself. If the weather's turned damp and you're cabin-fevered at your holiday lodge, it scratches that itch to get outside without demanding a full expedition.

Walkers will find it adequate but unremarkable. History buffs won't find much to go on about. Families with younger children, though, tend to prefer it to the bigger, busier country estates nearby - less overwhelm, more genuinely playable woodland. Worth the detour if you're already in the Bosworth area, but don't rearrange your itinerary for it.
