The lane down to St Cynllo winds through dense woodland just outside Cardigan, and you'll know you've found the right spot when the trees open up to reveal a small stone church sitting alone in a circular churchyard. It's the kind of place that makes you understand why the early Christians chose it - quiet, deliberately remote, hemmed in by thick yew trees that are probably older than the building itself.

The church dates back to medieval times and sits on what's almost certainly an even older Christian site. Inside, it's plain and honest - whitewashed walls, a simple altar, nothing fancy. The real draw is the atmosphere rather than specific artefacts, though there's a decent font and some decent stonework if you look closely. It's genuinely peaceful rather than touristy, which means you might have the place entirely to yourself.

This works best for walkers and anyone interested in Welsh religious history without needing signage or café facilities. Expect to spend thirty minutes here, maybe an hour if you're keen on stone carvings and churchyard inscriptions. There's no visitor centre, no entrance fee that we're aware of - just push the gate and go in. It's the sort of visit that slots neatly into a broader walk around Cardigan Bay, especially if you're based at one of the nearby campsites like Happy Campers or Mwnt Camping. The coastal paths nearby are genuinely better than the church itself, if we're being honest, but St Cynllo makes a proper detour if you're already out exploring the Ceredigion countryside.
