St Edmunds Church

The church sits quietly in countryside just outside Buckingham, one of those medieval buildings that rewards a slow wander round rather than a quick tick-box visit. Stone walls, proper old roof tiles, and the kind of peaceful churchyard where you can actually hear yourself think. Inside there's the usual medieval charm - pews that have held centuries of bottoms, windows that let in honest light, and if you're lucky, some original features worth photographing.

This is genuinely a spot for people who like wandering into old churches without fanfare. No gift shop, no audio guide, just you and the stones. Historians will get more from it than families with restless kids, though the churchyard itself is lovely for a stroll if you're exploring the Buckingham area. Allow half an hour at most unless you're doing serious brass rubbings or sketching.

Free entry as far as we can tell, though do check locally. If you're camping nearby at Hedgehog Retreat or one of the other parks within a few miles, this makes a decent morning detour on the way to bigger draws. It's the sort of place that feels properly English without trying too hard - no café, no car park fuss, just an old church doing what old churches do. Good if you're breaking up a park holiday with some local wandering, not worth planning a day around.
