St Mary the Virgin Church, Minster

The church sits on the Isle of Sheppey, a few miles from Ramsgate, and it's absolutely worth the short drive if you're camping anywhere in the area. St Mary the Virgin is genuinely old - we're talking Norman origins, so the bones of the place go back centuries. Walking inside, you immediately notice the soaring nave and the light flooding through the windows. The interior is surprisingly substantial for what the exterior suggests from the lane.

It's a proper working parish church, so opening times vary and admission is free, though do check locally before you visit. The churchyard itself is pleasant enough for a wander, and there's real history in the stones if you're that way inclined. History buffs will spend a good thirty minutes picking through the details; families with small kids might manage twenty before boredom sets in.

What makes it worth a stop during a park holiday is its proximity to Dog & Duck Leisure Park and Sandwich Leisure Holiday Park - both within easy reach. It's the sort of place that slots nicely into a rainy afternoon or a slow morning before hitting the beach. Nothing flashy, no gift shop, no crowds. Just a church that's been doing its job for around nine hundred years. If you're the type who enjoys medieval architecture and don't mind slightly wonky floors, you'll get something out of it. If you're after adrenaline, skip it.
