St Matthew's Church

The church sits quietly on its own in Sussex countryside, a couple of miles north of Worthing. St Matthew's is a proper Victorian build - solid red brick with the kind of straightforward design you see dotted across the South East from that era. Inside, the light comes through nicely, and if you're into church architecture, there's enough detail to keep you occupied for twenty minutes or so.

Historically minded visitors will find it interesting enough - Victorian churches tell you a lot about how communities developed during that period. But this isn't one of those showstopping medieval parish churches you'll find elsewhere in Sussex. Kids might manage fifteen minutes before restlessness sets in.

Access shouldn't be an issue - it's free to visit, though opening hours can be variable, so check locally before making the journey. Worthing itself is your nearest town for facilities, and the caravan parks around the area make it convenient if you're based at one for a longer stay. Pair it with a walk through the surrounding countryside rather than treating it as a standalone trip.
