St Nectan's Church, Welcombe

You'll find this little church tucked away in the village of Welcombe, just inland from Bude, and it's genuinely one of those places that rewards a slight detour. St Nectan's is ancient - we're talking medieval foundations - and there's something about walking through that door that makes you properly pause. The interior is modest, as Devon churches often are, but there's real character in the details: the old stonework, the sense of centuries of worship in a community that's barely changed size.

It works well as a break from beach time, especially on an overcast day. The walk from the car is only a couple of minutes, so it's accessible without being demanding.
