St. Peter's & St. Paul's Church

The church sits right in Lingfield town centre, its stone tower rising above the High Street in that understated way Surrey villages do. St. Peter & St. Paul's is a proper medieval affair - largely 14th and 15th century work, though it's been fiddled with since then, as all old churches have. You'll spot the decent stained glass and some reasonable brasses if you're into that sort of thing. The interior has that familiar cold stone smell and rows of wooden pews that haven't changed much in 400 years.

It's worth a quick look if you're passing through Lingfield, which you likely will be if you're staying at Long Acres or the glamping site nearby. Give it twenty minutes, thirty at most unless you're a serious ecclesiastical history type. The churchyard itself is pleasant for a wander, though nothing spectacular. Kids won't find it thrilling unless they're already interested in old buildings.

Access appears to be during standard visiting hours, but it's worth checking locally when you arrive - church keys can be temperamental. It costs nothing, naturally, and it makes sense to combine it with a proper walk around Lingfield High Street, which has a decent selection of shops and a few decent pubs if you fancy a pint after. The location is handy if you're basing yourself at Long Acres for a park break in Surrey - just a mile or so down the road.
