St Teilo's Church, Llandeilo

The medieval church sits right in the heart of Llandeilo, hard to miss if you're wandering the high street. St Teilo's is a proper Grade I listed building, dating back to the 15th century, though the site itself has been sacred for over a thousand years. Walk inside and you'll find a surprisingly spacious interior with some genuinely good windows - the Victorian restoration work is evident but not overdone, which is refreshing.

The church is free to visit, and assuming it's unlocked when you call by, you can spend twenty minutes or so having a look around. It's not the most elaborate medieval church in Wales, but there's a calm to it that makes it worth the detour if you're spending time in Llandeilo itself. History enthusiasts will appreciate the connection to St Teilo, the sixth-century Welsh saint, and the town's own significance in medieval times.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - Ravenscroft Retreats or Gelli Glamping are both within a couple of miles - it's an easy walk into town and the church fits neatly into a morning's exploration. Pair it with a proper look around Llandeilo's market town itself, which has some solid independent shops and decent cafes. The Towy Valley Caravan Park and other sites further out work equally well as a base for exploring this part of Carmarthenshire. The church isn't a day-long attraction, but it anchors a visit to one of South Wales' more likeable small towns.
