Stapenhill Woodland Walk & Riverside Walk

Two walks join up here at Stapenhill, just across the border from Burton-on-Trent - one cuts through woodland, the other hugs the riverside. It's the sort of place you stumble upon and think, why isn't this rammed with people?

The woodland section is genuinely pleasant. Trees overhead, proper shade even on warm days, and enough variation in the path to keep it interesting rather than tedious. The riverside stretch is where it gets good though. The Trent flows past at a decent pace depending on rainfall, and you get proper views across the water. On a clear day it's worth lingering. The walks can be done separately or looped together depending on how much time you've got and what your legs can handle.

It's ideal for families who want their kids to burn off energy without it being a full-blown hike. History buffs won't find much here - it's about the landscape rather than heritage. Walkers will appreciate the riverside section especially; locals seem to know this better than day-trippers do.

If you're staying at any of the nearby parks - Peake's Retreats, Conkers, or Broadleaves are all within striking distance - it's a decent morning or afternoon jaunt. Not dramatic enough to plan a trip around by itself, but absolutely worth doing if you're in the area for a few days. Go when it's been dry. The paths can get muddy and fiddly after rain.
