Steele's Knowe

The walk up Steele's Knowe takes you out of Auchterarder into proper Perthshire hill country - nothing dramatic, but that's rather the point. It's the sort of peak that rewards you with views across the Ochil range without demanding Alpine fitness, and on a clear day you can see right down the Carse of Stirling.

The summit itself is modest in stature but genuinely lovely once you're up there. You get a real sense of the landscape rolling away in all directions, with farmland giving way to moorland and distant hills. The path is straightforward enough, though it gets a bit muddy in places after rain. Allow a couple of hours there and back if you're a normal walker, less if you're quick on your feet.

Families with older kids will manage it without complaint. Younger ones might find it a slog on the final stretch - there's not much to distract them at the top beyond the view itself. History types will appreciate that you're in Perthshire's rural heart, though the knowe doesn't come with any major historical baggage.

If you're staying at Alexander House or Greenhill Farm Glamping, this is a cracking half-day outing that connects you to the land properly. It's free, naturally, and best tackled in the morning when you've got better light and fewer midges. The walk ties in well with exploring Auchterarder itself - a modest market town with decent enough pubs for post-walk recovery.
