Storey Arms Outdoor Education Centre

The Storey Arms sits bang in the middle of the Brecon Beacons, about five miles south of Brecon town itself. It's an outdoor education centre, which means you won't find gift shops or visitor facilities in the traditional sense - this is a working place where schools and groups come to learn about the landscape, not a tourist attraction with a cafe and gift shop.

That said, it's a proper hub for walkers and anyone keen on the outdoors. The building serves as a waypoint for several excellent routes across the Beacons, and the location is genuinely striking. You get sweeping views of moorland and the surrounding peaks. Hikers often pass through or start their walks from here. The centre itself won't take your time - it's functional rather than an attraction to linger at - but the surrounding landscape is what draws people back repeatedly.

If you're camping nearby at Cefn Cantref or Toad & Snail (both excellent spots, mind you), Storey Arms works as a launchpad rather than a destination. Park up at the centre and head out on foot. The walks from here range from gentle riverside strolls to proper hill climbs depending on your fitness. Summer's the obvious choice, though walkers brave the weather year-round.

The real appeal here is the Beacons themselves. Storey Arms is just your starting block. Come for the hiking, not the building.
