Stour Hill

Climb through mixed woodland and you'll find yourself on one of Worcestershire's more rewarding viewpoints. Stour Hill rises above the Severn Valley countryside, offering glimpses through the trees towards the river below and the surrounding farmland that rolls away towards Kidderminster.

The forest here feels properly wild in places, with well-worn paths threading between oak and birch that give way to more open clearings near the summit. Dog walkers and families make up most of the visitors, though it's never crowded. The kids will enjoy scrambling about, and there's enough variety in the terrain to keep them interested for a couple of hours.

From Stourport-on-Severn, it's a straightforward drive to the base of the hill, though parking can be limited during busy weekends. The climb isn't particularly challenging, but wear decent shoes as it can get muddy after rain.

If you're staying at one of the holiday parks around Stourport - Blackstone Meadow or Lickhill Manor are both within easy reach - this makes for a lovely morning out before heading back for lunch. The area works well as a base for exploring the Wyre Forest nearby, and you're close enough to the river for afternoon walks along the Severn Way. Worth the effort for the views alone.
