Streethouse Plantation

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Streethouse Plantation sits just outside Morpeth and makes a decent stretch of the legs if you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks. The forest is unremarkable to be honest - mixed woodland, some decent-sized trees, the usual network of paths that locals use to move between A and B. You won't find manicured trails or visitor facilities here. What you get is space to wander, birdsong if you're lucky, and the kind of quiet that makes you realise how little of it exists elsewhere.

It works best for families wanting to burn energy between park activities, or walkers who appreciate a straightforward ramble without the tourist infrastructure. Dog walkers love it. Give it an hour if you're exploring properly, thirty minutes if you're just after a quick circuit. The ground can be muddy after rain - proper muddy - so come prepared.

The main appeal is proximity to Whitton Glebe and Riverside Rothbury, both excellent bases if you're after a week in the area. Neither park is more than a couple of miles from the woodland, making Streethouse useful as a daily escape rather than a reason to visit Morpeth itself. Forget Me Not Country Park is a touch further away but offers more traditional holiday facilities if that matters to you. Worth knowing it exists if you're staying locally, but don't plan a trip around it. Morpeth town centre has more character if you're after an afternoon outing.
