The Coton Centre

The Coton Centre sits on the edge of Burton-on-Trent and is essentially a working heritage site focused on traditional crafts and industrial heritage. It's not glamorous - there's no polished visitor centre feel here. Instead, you get the real thing: artisans actually at work, often in converted industrial buildings that still smell of what they used to produce.

What you'll find depends on what's operating when you visit, but expect working demonstrations of traditional skills - blacksmithing, woodworking, pottery. You wander through at your own pace, stop to watch someone properly know their craft, ask questions if they're not too busy. It's the sort of place where you might spend twenty minutes transfixed watching a blacksmith, or half an hour chatting to a potter about their process.

Families with older children who aren't after theme park thrills will get something here. Younger kids might find it a bit slow unless they're genuinely into making things. History enthusiasts and craft people will absolutely rate it - this is authentic industrial heritage without the interpretation boards getting in the way.

The Centre works well as a morning visit if you're staying at Kingfisher Holiday Park, just six miles away. It's a proper contrast to park time - quieter, more contemplative. Allow two to three hours if you're actually interested; forty minutes if you're just poking about.
