The Green

The Green in Brough is one of those proper village focal points that work best if you're actually staying nearby rather than driving out specially for it. It's a genuinely pleasant open space - the kind of place where locals bring their dogs, kids mess about on the grass, and you can grab a bench to sit down without feeling like you're in anyone's way.

You'll find it's useful as a base for a gentle walk or to stretch your legs if you're passing through East Yorkshire. There's nothing flashy about it, which is rather the point. The space itself is well-maintained, and it gives you a real sense of what village life actually looks like rather than some manufactured attraction.

If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan sites - Willow Pond is barely a mile away, and Little Wold Away glamping not much further - The Green becomes a natural part of your day. It's the sort of place where you'll recognise faces after a couple of visits. Families with young kids will appreciate the open space; walkers heading out into the Wolds might stop here before setting off properly. It's not going to occupy hours of your time, but that's not really what it's for.

Best visited when the weather's decent and you can actually sit outside without getting soaked. No charge to use it, obviously - it's just the village green doing what village greens do. Worth a stroll if you're in the area, but don't divert specially.
