The Green

The Green is a proper nature reserve just outside Hunstanton, where the Norfolk coast gets properly wild. You're looking at open heathland, grassland, and the sort of habitat that actually matters for ground-nesting birds and rare plants - this isn't a manicured garden, it's genuine conservation work you can walk through.

It's the kind of place that rewards slow, attentive walking. Bring binoculars if you're into birds; the reserve is excellent for spotting plovers and other species that need space away from the beach crowds. The walking is straightforward enough, nothing steep, with decent sight lines across the reserve so you won't feel hemmed in. Early morning is when it's liveliest for wildlife, though late afternoon works too when the light's softer.

Families with school-age kids will get more from it than toddlers - there's nowhere to run around like a playground, and the appeal is observational. For serious walkers and nature enthusiasts, it's a solid addition to exploring the wider Norfolk coast. If you're staying at Manor Park Holiday Park or Searles Leisure Resort, both less than a mile away, you could easily slip over for a couple of hours without making a day of it.

It's free to walk, and there's no formal visitor centre, so come prepared with decent footwear and expect to be self-sufficient. Combine it with Hunstanton's beach if you want a proper seaside day - the reserve offers a different rhythm entirely from the busy seafront.
