Worcester's old infirmary building tells the story of 18th and 19th century medicine in a way that's genuinely unsettling - in the best possible way. This isn't a sanitised heritage experience. The museum does a proper job of showing what that looked like.

The layout follows the patient journey from admission through treatment, and it's thorough enough to hold your attention for a solid couple of hours, though an hour will do if you're pushing on elsewhere. Family groups with teenagers tend to get more from it than younger kids - there's genuine historical weight here, not entertainment for entertainment's sake. The medical instruments alone are worth the visit; seeing the actual tools surgeons used makes you extraordinarily grateful for modern anaesthesia.

It's walkable from Worcester town centre, which makes sense as a wet-weather option if you're camped at Worcester Glamping or Ketch Caravan Park nearby. If you're doing the broader Worcestershire circuit - heading to somewhere like Peachley or Hop Pickers - you could easily slot this in as a half-day diversion. Free admission is typical for these local museums, though it's worth checking ahead as opening hours can be patchy. Not thrilling, but genuinely educational and occasionally quite moving.
